Greetings from the East.
Summer is waning and soon the evenings will turn crisp and our thoughts will turn to apple cider and football on the weekends.
This summer was jam packed for your WM with Masonic related travel, but I’m happy to be back in Michigan as my favorite season is getting ready to usher in the beauty that is a Michigan autumn. One of those trips was a quick visit to Toronto for the Amalgamation between Kilwinning Lodge No. 565 and King Hiram Lodge No. 566; along with their Installation of Officers. This was a truly unique event that really was quite impressive on a rather hot summer day. The brief amalgamation ceremony celebrated the individual Lodges involved and created a unification between them with a look to the future success of the Lodge. This is something that I wish our Grand Lodge did in the process of Lodge mergers. I was happy to participate in the Zeppelin Peace Run this year again. Let’s be honest, I didn’t actually run, but had a great walk through the woods with those more ambitions than I.
The Lodge hosted a Child ID program during National Night Out on the 13th of August. Many thanks to Brothers Skip Taylor, Jay Boelter, Dale Konyha and his wife, Greg Ouellette, and Charlie Shamie who came out to assist. We’d love to see each and every one of you down at the Lodge when you have an opportunity!
We were deeply saddened to hear that WB Chuck Morris’ wife April, passed away in June after a long battle with cancer; and that Bro. Charlie Shamie’s wife Connie passed in July. Please keep these Brothers in your prayers in this time of sorrow.
I hope to see you all in September at our Regular Communication as well as at our Annual Steak Dinner. As you know, this event is one of our largest fundraisers and we look for the support of the entire membership to make it a success. Please see the enclosed letter with details.
As of this writing, our Golf Outing will have happened, and I’m sure all who attended had a great time!! This year, we teamed up with Walled Lake Lodge to see if we can make the event as big as it once was and on first blush, it looks to be working. Each Lodge had six teams for a field of 48 golfers!! Let’s try to make it a little bigger next year as well!!
September also begins our Football Mania Sweepstakes!! For many months Lodge members have been selling tickets and now we can begin to find out who wins!! If you don’t have your tickets, yet, please contact any Officer of the Lodge!
In speaking with our Kilwinning Lodge counterparts, I expect an invitation for an official visit to occur October 18-20. Make plans now to travel with us to Toronto as we continue more than 70 years of international brotherhood that has created friendships that span generations!! Details to come!!
We’ve received a couple of membership inquiries so come down to the Lodge and meet these prospective members over the next few months!!
Fraternally yours,
Matthew R. Shelton, WM
