Master's Letter - October 2024

Writer's picture: Pontiac Lodge No. 21Pontiac Lodge No. 21

Greetings from the East.

Autumn has officially arrived!!  The nights are getting cooler and soon the leaves will begin to change color and fall.

I’d like to congratulate WB Ryan Clay of Walled Lake Lodge No. 528 on being elected as our new BGP Representative from District 23.  I have the utmost confidence that he will do a fantastic job in that role!!  The night of that election in September, our new DDI, WB Kevin Brown put together a nice presentation with several ideas about how to memorize ritual parts.  All in attendance that night thoroughly enjoyed his presentation and took home some pointers to help them as they progress in Masonry.

We’ve been a bit flexible in our scheduling.  While we did not visit Gibraltar Lodge on the 14th of September, we were able to put together a social event where several of our Officers and members got together with the WM of Gibraltar Lodge and a half dozen members of his Lodge to watch the Detroit Lions win against the Arizona Cardinals.  This was a great opportunity to break bread with our PHA Brothers and enjoy lighthearted fellowship.  We discussed ways in which we can support each others’ Lodges and build up Masonry in Pontiac and the surrounding areas.  We will definitely do this again.

I received a couple of calls from the WM of Kilwinning Lodge No. 565 regarding our visitation.  We’ve hit some logistical snags in the planning process, as we were unaware that Taylor Swift, is holding two weeks worth of shows in Toronto in the same timeframe we were trying to visit, and while we aren’t trying to get tickets to these extremely popular shows, there are literally hundreds of thousands of her fans that are travelling to these shows and booking hotels, etc.  The hotels have radically raised rates due to this added demand, to the point that we are looking to reschedule, possibly to the 1st weekend of November.  Please let me know ASAP if that weekend works for you, as I’m trying to get a degree team together to exemplify a Master Mason Degree for them during the visitation.  I’d love it if we could get 12-15 members to attend that visitation.  The hospitality they show us is second to none and you’ll make friendships that literally last a lifetime.

Given the rescheduled visitation, I’d like to add a Master Mason degree practice to our schedule in October.  I hope you can all make it!

                                                 Fraternally yours,

                        Matthew R. Shelton, WM
