Greetings from the East.
We’ve had a few brisk mornings as the seasons mingle between summer and fall. Leaves are beginning to drop and football season is in full swing.
We are greatly looking forward to yet another visitation to Kilwinning Lodge No. 565, now that the dates have been set and plans are under way. We will depart the Lodge on Friday, November 29 at approximately 8:00AM and make our way across the border at Port Huron/Sarnia as we head to celebrate with our Canadian Brethren. Friday evening, we will attend their Lodge meeting which will include some degree work by their Lodge. On Saturday, November 30th, we are up to bat!! We currently have 12 Brothers from Pontiac and other area Lodges confirmed to attend and would love to have a few more join us, as we will put on a Pro-Tem Master Mason Degree beginning at 12:00PM on Saturday. We have not put on a Master Mason Degree in Canada in more than 35 years and they are really looking forward to seeing the work!!
Following the degree work on Saturday, we will help our Kilwinning Brethren celebrate their 100th Anniversary!! Technically, they have been around nearly 104 years at this point, but the pandemic and a Lodge Amalgamation (consolidation) delayed their celebration until now, so we are going to make sure it’s a memorable event for them!! On Sunday, December 1, we will make our way home. I can’t encourage you enough to participate in this event if you have the ability at all to do so!! I made my first visitation to Kilwinning in October of 1992, just months after being raised as a Master Mason. The lifelong friendships made on that trip are one of the highlights of my Masonic career and I can’t express the true joy that I feel each and every time our Lodges get together!!
As for the degree team, we have most of the larger parts covered and we can get it done with 12, but I’d love to have a couple more Brothers come out, not only to help with the degree, but just to share in the experience of this truly International Brotherhood!!
I’m going to schedule another Master’s Table event on November 10th at The HUB Stadium in Auburn Hills beginning at 4:00PM. Our last event there was well attended, but we didn’t get to throw axes because we didn’t book lanes in advance. Please RSVP with me that you are attending and if you want to try axe throwing so I can book lanes for us. Axe Lanes are $80/hour for up to 4 persons. They also have Football Bowling Lanes for $80/hour for up to 8 people. I’ve tried both and had a blast!! Bring friends and family and fellowship with your Brothers!!
Given the rescheduled visitation, I’m adding a MM Practice on November 10th at 1PM. This way we can avoid scheduling during opening weekend of deer season. I hope you can all make it!
Fraternally yours,
Matthew R. Shelton, WM
