Master's Letter - March 2024

Writer's picture: Pontiac Lodge No. 21Pontiac Lodge No. 21

Greetings from the East.

I'm not sure if the Groundhog saw his shadow in February or not, but regardless, we've seen several unseasonably warm days along with many frosty, icy days this winter.  Michigan weather is truly unpredictable.

Your Officers are hard at work perfecting their craft and we had a officer meeting and practice session working on our ritual as well as working with the Lodge Success Team to plan the course for the Lodge in the coming years.

As I write this, the Master's Table event has not yet occurred, but in the past events are any indication, I'm sure it was well attended and all who came enjoyed good food and fellowship!!  We will continue to do these events as they are as integral parts of Masonry as our ritual and business meetings.  Building and strengthening the bonds of Brotherly Love is key to a successful Lodge and we want to continue the tradition of Pontiac Masonry and leave a solid foundation for those to come.

At the February Regular Communication, we voted to once again support the Zeppelin Peace Run to assist local charities and to sponsor a youth Baseball team in Waterford.  Once we have the schedule, we'll make it available so our members can come out and enjoy the games and cheer on our team!!

I'd be remiss if I didn't thank Brother Skip Taylor for assisting me in demonstrating the full form Proficiency for the Master Mason degree as an educational item for our last Regular.  It has been a long time since either of us had done the proficiency, but it all came back as we continued on.   I encourage our new Brothers to give learning that long form proficiency a try.  It's not easy to do, but you'll find yourself more confident with the various degree work and it will prove to be time and effort well spent.

On March 20th, our District will hold the Triennial Election for our Board of General Purposes representative and our District Deputy Instructor.  All WMs and Wardens of our District are summoned to appear at Walled Lake Lodge No. 528 on that date for the election to be held at 7:00PM.  Walled Lake will hold a dinner beforehand at 6:00PM.  All Past Masters in the District are encouraged to attend the election as well.  If you know of any Past Master who is interested in serving as either BGP or DDI, please encourage them to attend.  Following the elections, we will hold a Legislative meeting to discuss the proposed legislation that will be voted on at Grand Lodge.  This is an opportunity to ask questions about the proposals, so you can recommend to your WM the Lodge's wishes in regards to the various proposals.

March 29th, I'm proposing that we take in a comedy show with friends and family either in Waterford or Royal Oak.  If you're interested, please let me know and we can coordinate tickets.

Reach out to your Brothers!  Let them know how important they are in your life!  We seldom realize the importance of those small kindnesses, but we can each appreciate how they lift our own spirits when we give or receive them.

We’d love to see each and every one of you down at the Lodge when you have an opportunity!

                                                 Fraternally yours,

                        Matthew R. Shelton, WM
