Greetings from the East.
We thought Spring had finally arrived, but this morning the grass had a little frost and snow on it and I nearly had to scrape the car off. The promise of warmer days is here, however and as we watch the flowers begin to bud and blossom, I’m reminded that change is a constant process as we are taught in Freemasonry.
We had a great turnout for our Master’s Table event in February. About 30 members, family and friends came out and enjoyed good food and fellowship!!
At the March Regular, we voted to use the balance of our Lodge Charity Account to support two local charities. Michigan DeMolay will receive a small donation to help cover the costs of a dance they are holding as a fun event for members and prospective members and their families and OUCARES, an autism outreach program run through Oakland University in conjunction with the Ted Lindsay Foundation will receive a donation to help support various programs for those with autism and their families to help with social and employment skills.
As of this writing, our District BGP and DDI elections have not yet taken place. I’ll have more to report next month. Several of the proposals being brought before Grand Lodge deal with the a potential increase in our per capita assessment, which has remained unchanged for nearly 15 years. I encourage you to attend our April Regular meeting to hear more about these proposals and how they might affect you.
Our second dues notice has gone out to those Brothers who have not yet paid their dues. Please check to make sure you have your Dues Card, or reach out to the Secretary to see if you still owe. Remember that, if you are experiencing financial difficulties and find your dues unmanageable, your Lodge can and will help! We have an obligation to assist Brothers in need and one of the ways we can to that is to remit your dues in times of financial difficulty. It is important that you send your dues in to the Secretary in a timely fashion OR ensure that you communicate any concerns to him in regards to dues.
March 29th, I'm proposing that we take in a comedy show with friends and family at One Night Stans in Waterford, MI. The comedian that night is DJ Sandhu and the show starts at 7PM. Tickets are If you're interested, please let me know and we can coordinate tickets. Call or text me at 248-431-4807 to let me know if you are interested in going. Tickets are $24 each and the club has a two beverage minimum. Let’s get a nice group together and have some fun. We will want to get tickets in advance. They can be purchased online, or if you prefer, contact me and I can purchase them for you and you can pay me that night or at the April meeting.
In April, I’d like to do another Master’s Table event on Sunday the 14th at 5PM. I’m thinking, perhaps we could try our hand at Axe Throwing or Fowling at The HUB in Auburn Hills. Let me know your thoughts!!
Reach out to your Brothers! Let them know how important they are in your life! We seldom realize the importance of those small kindnesses, but we can each appreciate how they lift our own spirits when we give or receive them.
We’d love to see each and every one of you down at the Lodge when you have an opportunity!
Fraternally yours,
Matthew R. Shelton, WM
